White Horse Contractors Limited were commissioned to design
and build a 3m wide, 7m clear span concrete bridge with
a 25 ton pay load.
The new bridge replaced an old derelict structure.
The new design had to meet both the requirement of the
client as well as approval of the Environment Agency.
Utilising the expertise of the Structural Engineer
and to avoid issues with any future erosion it was decided
to support the bridge on concrete abutments which would
extend below the stream bed.
3 No RSJ sections were incorporated into the design
to enable the bridge to take the weight of the agricultural
machinery, a reinforced concrete bed provided added
strength and a hard wearing finished surface.
