Project:
Drainage to Fairways
Client: The Drift Golf Club
Design By: White Horse Contractors Ltd |
A classic Sir Henry Cotton designed course, The Drift
Golf Club has been carved out of woodlands that were once
part of The Lord Lovelace Estate in rural Surrey. Water
plays an important part in the strategy of the course
with pond, streams and ditches providing hazards for the
player.
Every hole is tree lined, with the back nine especially
blessed with thick Rhododendron bushes. However, it is
these attributes that have also contributed to providing
maintenance problems for the greenkeeping crew at The
Drift. The first phase of drainage works were
undertaken by the company and 8 Fairways had drainage installed.
In the following summer, 3700m of piped drainage
was installed to 10 Fairways on the course.
The works
were undertaken during the summer months with the minimum
amount of disruption to the playing surface and giving
due consideration to the club's members.
Paul Weston, Course Manager at The Drift and his
team are delighted with the works so far undertaken, he
commented:
" this was an excellent job, White Horse Contractors
listened to our requirements, and were thoroughly professional
in their undertaking, they will be back in 2003 as our
programme continues and the 'course closed' sign is a
distant memory ".
