| SEBASTIAN COE OPENS LATEST WHITE HORSE PITCH
Lord Sebastian Coe, one of Britain’s greatest athletes and now leading Olympic Games 2012 Committee, was delighted to open the new All Weather Pitch at Pinewood, an independent school at Bourton, near Swindon, on Saturday November 5th
The new pitch was designed and installed by White Horse Contractors of Abingdon as part of a major sports facility redevelopment.
As well as work on the new pitch, which will enable the school to host sports events all year round and in all weathers, the project included the construction of a tarmac car park, a reinforced grass car park and a 1.8 hectare drained natural grass area for rugby, hockey, football and athletics.
The Desso carpet all weather multi-sport pitch was officially opened by Lord Coe, who was introduced by Philip Hoyland, the Headmaster to a large gathering of school governors, fundraisers, pupils and parents.
The new facility was put into immediate use with an inaugural hockey match between Pinewood and Hampshire rivals Forres Sandle Manor.
Tenders for this contract were submitted in late June 2005 and awarded in early July. Work was completed in just 12 weeks. As Steve Greene, a director of White Horse Contractors, said “a major reason for our appointment was that the works had to be completed for the autumn term after a late season start. We were able to fully resource the job to complete both in time and on budget’.
White Horse Contractors, a member of SAPCA, has also recently completed the re-alignment of the straight mile at Ascot racecourse, remedial works to the Princess Diana memorial fountain and construction of six full size premier football pitches for Chelsea FC.
