The existing turf was stripped and the sub-base and topsoil
was laser levelled.
The existing drainage system, although in good condition,
was enhanced with new secondary drainage, to speed up
the removal of water from the surface, making pitch
drainage more efficient.
Trenches for the sand slits at one-metre centres were
excavated using a spinning-disc trencher and backfilled
with a purpose-built backfilling machine. The trenches
were filled with 10mm shingle to the surface and an
approved sand was then spread over the entire playing
surface and worked into the topsoil to ameliorate, followed
by cultivation and seeding.
With only a seven-week growing-in period, a strict
maintenance regime was undertaken by the grounds staff.
The project consultant, Andy Cole, together with company
representatives provided advice and regularly visited
the site throughout the growing-in period. The pitch
was irrigated, mowed and fertiliser applied as required.
White Horse Contractors continues to provide the club
with assistance in the maintenance of the pitch.
" The pitch laid in June has brought BCFC
many accolades. It [the pitch] came eighth in the league
the following year and fourth last season. White Horse
Contractors also provides a good renovation and maintenance
service that's highly recommended."
