White Horse Contractors successfully tendered to install
drainage to 21 pitches at three playing field sites in
Manchester. Works commenced for Manchester City Council
in June and were completed by July.
Drainage had
not been installed at any of the sites and the aim was
to up grade the facilities to enable all-year-round play.
All plant used on site was fitted with low -ground-pressure
tyres and tracks to prevent any damage to the playing
surface. A 15/15 trencher was used to cut the trenches
and 80mm plastic perforated pipe was installed for the
lateral drains and 160/100mm for the mains.
All spoil
from the trenchers was loaded, via conveyor, onto small
dump trucks. A Househam backfilling hopper, adapted
to White Horse Contractors' design, was used to backfill
the trenches. Washed gravel was placed in the trenches
to within 250mm of the surface and then topped with
an 85:15 rootzone. The funding for this significant investment in playing
field improvements came partly from a Sport England
grant and Manchester City Council. |
