Thame, Oxfordshire
Project: Restoration of Victorian Trout Race.
Client: Strutt and Parker
Consulting Engineers: Lewin, Fyer & Partners

This project involved the restoration of a derelict trout race believed to have been constructed by Capability Brown whilst landscaping the parkland surrounding the Estate.

There were four dams that were eroded to such a state that it was not possible to patch up and repair them; complete rebuild was considered necessary. It was essential to re-use where possible the original brickwork combined with the sympathetic introduction of modern day masonry and steel work.

The structure was replicated as close to the original design as possible, which included the re-construction of tilting fish screen and green oak penstocks. This gave the option for fish to be moved between each of the water-bodies as well as each having the capability of being independently drained down.
