Case Study: RSPB Otmoor Nature Reserve lagoon and wetland construction

Project: Construction of Clay Lined Lagoon.

Client: The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds

Designer: The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds

Contract Value £280K (3No. phases of work)

The construction of a clay-lined water storage lagoon covering 2.5 acres, scrapes and wetland habitat over a 260 acre site incorporating, ditches, channels, a large lagoon and smaller mere and viewing pool for use by the RSPB.

The Otmoor was historically a wet area and partially farmed in small pockets. In 1976, White Horse Contractors dredged and cleared the moor and installed a comprehensive agricultural land drainage system. Twenty years later we returned to recreate the wetland nature of the Otmoor.
