Multiple habitat construction for the RSPB

With a storied history of environmental works, working closely with the RSPB, the conservation charity again selected White Horse Contractors to construct multiple habitats for Stone-curlews and butterflies at the Winterbourne Downs Nature Reserve in Wiltshire.

Country Park Construction

This ambitious 50 ha project for The Marston Vale Trust was designed and constructed by White Horse Contractors’ staff, including the production of more than 50 working drawings.

  • 13 purpose-built wetland habitats, including 20ha of reed bed.
  • 14km of trails, including cycle and bridle ways.
  • Water-transfer systems for the wetland habitats.
  • A 75m boardwalk.
  • 15 new access control structures to restrict entry to the park.

RSPB lagoon and wetland construction

Construction of a clay-lined water storage lagoon covering 2.5 acres, scrapes and wetland habitat over a 260 acre site incorporating, ditches, channels, a large lagoon and smaller mere and viewing pool at RSPB Otmoor Nature Reserve.

RSPB wetland construction

De-silting of lagoons, creation of wetlands & installation of water control structures at RSPB Rye Meads .
  • Reduce the water volume and surface area of lagoon No. 1.
  • Create wetland areas for wild fowl in general but with a specific intention to attract bittern.
  • Excavation of hard sediment from the base of the lagoon to form deepwater channels.
